The Jim Cullum Jazz Group hosted some World-Class musicians as guests in April!

First, Larry Scala joined the band for a few days at Bohanan's and the Boardwalk Bistro. Larry works with Tim Laughlin and many other outstanding musicians in New Orleans. He played fantastic rhythm guitar and solos that reminded us of Allan Reuss!

A couple of weeks after Larry's appearance, trombonist Doug Finke was in San Antonio to visit friends, and sat in with the band for two nights at Bohanan's. He is based in Louisville, Kentucky where he leads his own group. He also travels around the country for gigs with Bob Schulz's Frisco Jazz Band and Ed Polcer's All-Stars. Doug is one of the best Jazz trombonists to be heard anywhere -- a statement with which the JCJG and the audience at Bohanan's heartily concur!

On Apr. 19 and 20, JCJG pianist John Sheridan performed at the Atlanta Jazz Party. Our old friend David Boeddinghaus came over from New Orleans and joined the band for one night at the Boardwalk Bistro and at "Absolute Jazz: Sounds and Sips" in the city of Schertz, Texas. David was in top form. In particular, his interplay with Jim on "Wild Man Blues" was reminiscent of the "equal partnership" between Earl Hines and Louis Armstrong on their classic recording of "Weatherbird Rag."

The full band, with Allan Vache', Mike Pittsley, and recently-retired Howard Elkins, played a concert at the Presbyterian Village in Dallas on Apr. 2; a Jazz Worship Service at the First United Methodist Church in Conroe on Apr. 14; and the St. Mark's Episcopal Church picnic in San Marcos on Apr. 28.
